Beauty/Style

Ms. Gray will see you now

While I do enjoy that book series and not the movie (I know people had mixed reviews about it), this post is in the Beauty/Style section so I'm keeping it clean.

This post is really just about an outfit choice that I wore today and loved. I loved that it was comfortable yet classy. Best part was that my outfit was completely affordable and are pieces that can be used for several different outfits.

Outfit Breakdown

  • Shirt: George Brand (Walmart $5 on markdowns)
  • Pants: Faded Glory Jeggings (Walmart $5 regular price)
  • Boots: Kohl's (they were a Christmas gift last year so I don't remember the price or brand)
  • Sweater: J.Jill (Label Shopper $10)
  • Earrings: New York & Co. ($5.00 half off on Black Friday)
Style is all up to the individual. Being a broke college student I always have my eye on a good bargain. Don't be afraid to wear something just because of where it's from. Half of the time no one is going to notice where it's from if you wear it right!

Face it

When it comes to our faces we all have different needs. Some of us have oily skin, some dry, some combination, and then there is the sensitive skin. There are other issues that overtake our face like redness, acne, dark circles, you name it and we've probably all had it.

For me I have combination and sensitive skin, but I have found face products that work really well for me. Here is my makeup lineup for when I really put it on(disclosure: I am human and not a professional makeup artist whatsoever):

FACE
  • Covergirl Outlast stay fabulous, 3 in 1 in soft honey 855 (when I'm tan) ($5.99-8.99). -I'm losing my summer color more now and much paler, so I have to go to the drugstore to get  lighter shade.
  • Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Concealer in light pale ($5.99) - I use a lighter shade then my complexion to highlight and contour my face.
  • Wet N Wild Coverall Pressed Powder in 826B Medium/Tan ($2.99) - This is usually to set my under eye concealer and smooth my face on days when I'm not wearing a whole lot.
  • NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in 720A Sunny ($2.99) - I like that this bronzer really warms up my face. I like my face to look warm and have a glow rather than cool toned, but that's just my preference.
  •  Covergirl Cheekers Blush in Rock N Rose ($4.99) - This is just currently the one I'm obsessed with, Covergirl makes many many options. I have other brands as well that work for different looks, but for everyday this is my go to.
EYES
  • (Currently) Milani Runway Lashes in 106 Black ($3.99) - This Mascara is not waterproof (during sports season I will usually wear Maybelline's the Falsies waterproof in very black) but gives me crazy volume, like false lashes crazy volume, with easy application, and no clumping.
  • ULTA Automatic Eye Liner in Black/Brown ($0.99-2.99)  - This is a kohl eyeliner and it has excellent pigmentation and control. I have these in several different colors (plum, olive, brown) they're all really great.
Lips really depend on what I'm wearing that day. But I have been using the Wet N Wild Matte collection, again they're super pigmented, matte, and last for a while. Their packaging is sleek and often times they are at the drugstore on sale for $1 sometimes $2. For brushes I use ELF and Stila brushes, but I got those as gifts or for the holidays, but I know a lot of people use high end like MAC, Sigma, and Morphe. What you use is going to depend again on your own style.

My makeup routine when I fully do it usually takes about 10 minutes. I only really do eye shadow if I have an interview, presentation, big function, or am going out. What shadows I use depend on what I'm going to wear that day so that is another thing to keep in mind.

If you're just getting started wearing makeup or trying to figure out how you're supposed to wear makeup YouTube is the perfect place. There are tons of professional makeup artists who use a variety of high end and drugstore makeup (depending on your budget and style) that are easy to follow and recreate. My favs are Casey Holmes, Kathleen Lights, Jaclyn Hill, and Laura Lee. They post fun and interesting tutorials weekly! Hope this post gives you some inspiration or gives you a place to start. I'll post my winter changes when the time comes around. Til next time stay be-YOU-tiful.

Scarf Season

It has been an awkward fall season. Sometimes it has been mid 60's, while other times have barely managed to make it out of the 30's. However during this ever changing season, there is one trend that can be worn hot or cold...scarves. Yes, scarves. If you're like me you have one or two of those special, looped hangers that keeps your scarves nice and organized. If you don't have these beauties, I highly recommend buying them. They can be found at your local department stores (Target, Boscovs, Macy's, Sears, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.).  I found inspiration from this particular look on Pinterest. I saw that scarves were pretty common under their women's fall fashion, outfit tags. So I looked through my closet and decided that these pieces would work.Overall the outfit is only 5 main pieces, that are commonly found in most closets.  So whatever you've got, go with it. Your style, your way!
